Getting started
Before you begin the task you need to make sure that you have all of the necessary tools to get it done. Sliding glass doors are heavy although they may look light because of the glass. You should therefore not move it on your own because it is risky. Get someone to help you move the door during this task.
You need the following:
- Some foam sheets or maybe some layers of heavy blankets. Comforters can also be considered if available.
- An appropriate screwdriver.
- A flat-head screwdriver.
Once you have all of the above it is time to get the task going. Follow the following steps.
Make the work area empty
You need to move away from the things that are close to your sliding glass door. You will need some distance of at least 5 meters depending on the space you can get.
Prepare the floor
Place the blankets on the floor. They will protect the sliding glass door from possible damage while being removed. It will also protect you from any cracks or chips from the door’s weight.
Remove the door’s screen
Use the flat-head screwdriver to carefully carry up the rollers of the door’s screen from the bottom track. When taken out, move the door’s screen to a place that you deem safe for it.
Take out the stationary door
The stationary door is the part of the door that never moves. It is mostly placed behind the sliding part of the door. You may have to take out the stationary part if you are not able to take out the sliding part of the door from inside the house. If the floor is raised then it may cause this problem. Take the flat-head screwdriver and use it to remove the threshold. Then use it to unscrew the middle, top, and bottom brackets. From there you have to carefully lift the door towards the sky until it is loose from its tracks and then with the help of your partner you should tilt it a little bit to take out the door from the track on top. Place the door down gently on the foam sheet.
Take out the sliding glass door
Slide the door until it hits the indent. Take out the adjustment screws from the side panels at the bottom of the door. Remove the plugs from the screws if there are any. Use the appropriate screwdriver to make the adjustment screws loose for you to be able to pull up the rollers. From here you can easily lift the door out from the frame and track. Once you take the door out, let your partner assist you in placing it flat on the foam sheet. All that and you are done.
